Is "ridesharing" safe? Who are these amateur uberX drivers and are they properly screened for criminal backgrounds? Do they have proper insurance? And what happens when inevitable accidents occur? Are riders in danger? Uber thinks they're above regulations and oversight. They claim to only be a technology company. But don't be fooled. Here are four Uber myths debunked.     So why doesn't the taxi cops of HCTPC just arrest a few of them and charge with illegal taxi and let a judge decide all the way to supreme court? If I drove over to Tampa in my Ford Pinto wagon and put a taxi light on my car and picked up people, I'd be stopped immediately. Maybe uber and lynx are protected by somebody and HCTPC knows to leave them alone? Doesn't make sense. Doesn't Untied cab have any interest in stopping this ursupration of there business ?

    That is what I have been thinking. Uber has 1.5 billion behind them. I would be naive to think someone has not been paid off. Why else would VICTOR CRIST be dragging this thing out.

    I don't think Crist takes money from Uber, but people like Rubio, Scott and other bigwigs in Tallahassee do and they put pressure on local agencies and governments to let uber do whatever they want.

    We know for a fact Rubio is a big Uber and no regulation guy. His idea of capitalism would lead to immovable monopolies. It would create rampant poverty.

What Lyft and Uber will take from the Tampa taxi business

A lyft car at the Iconic sign on Florida ave downtown Tampa I have been a hack in Tampa Florida since 1995. Unlike the estimated 50% of Americans that hate their jobs, I have never had a day when I did not feel like going to work. Certainly, the last few years  have not been fun because the economy fell apart like a three dollar watch. However, economies are like tides and this one is on the rebound, at a snail's pace. I would like to thank Mr. Obama for that but that would not be fair. The economy is recovering despite any fiscal policy of his. That being said - there are challenges. My job is inherently difficult. We face strange and deranged people street level on a daily basis. Taxi companies in Tampa (which are regulated) must serve the general population. We have no choice. Short fares, drunk fares, people going to buy drugs (they don't tell you that) we must pick up. Don't get me wrong, there are business people, beautiful women, great trippers, and long haul...

The Taxi Driver who found Bigfoot (Documentary Film)

It seems that I may have been the only person in recent years that has actually found Bigfoot. I am a cab driver and this short documentary is about what I go thru and what I have been doing long before the Animal Planet "Finding Bigfoot" was on TV. They consider me a maverick but screw 'em.

Monday morning

Business has been slow. I'm not going to beat around the bush. I need shoes and shoe strings. I am broke and struggling. I am tired, frustrated, and dealing with real anger issues. I need time off, money, and rest. I can find none of this. My entire situation sucks. I want to blame someone. What compounds all of this are drivers willing to work around the clock for scant money (that forces me to do the same). I am exhausted and wish I could get a break. I do think one is coming up. United Cab is doing all they can do but the economy has greatly increased their expenses. I do hope to have a happier post at the end if the day.

"Shu" has passed away

Billy Shuman 2005 Long time dispatcher and driver for United Cab of Tampa Billy Shuman has passed away. He was the last of a vanishing breed of cowboy dispatchers that could pitch 200 calls an hour and laugh at ya' while he did it. They are all gone now, Pirate, Sleepy, Justin, Shu. They were a group of guys from an era that will never be seen again. Sadly. Shu was the ultimate cab driver and dispatcher. He had a real tolerance for the job and I never saw him lose his cool. If you backed me in a corner, I would have to say Shu was the best dispatcher we ever had. He never got so wrapped up in the job that he did not enjoy life. He was a season ticket holder for the Bucs during the glory years. Because of Shu, I was able to attend many games and watched the Super Bowl Bucs play live. I will never forget that. Shu also loved animals. He fed every animal he ever saw. In fact, there was a great blue heron named Buddy that he fed in the backyard of his house on the Hillsborough ...

Joe Lopano forces Uber impact fees at Tampa International Airport which is highway robbery

I don't like being robbed at Tampa  International Airport The real reason Joseph W. Lopano let Uber and Lyft into TPA was he projected an increase in fees collected to be 5.2 million in the next two years. He seemed to view this as a revenue generating opportunity when the taxi companies were only able to come up with about 1.2 million a year. This was more than a reason to violate existing law. Joe Lopano (head of TPA) had a long range plan to soak the public and make a GIANT BONUS for himself. I wonder why he was fired in New York and flamed out in Dallas? Just wondering. The Tampa Bay Business Journal confirmed this fact the other day on their website. I knew he was corrupt and this proves it. Lopano stated that reason he let Uber and Lyft into the airport (violating the contract he had with the taxi companies) is he wanted to provide transportation alternatives to the traveling public.
