Tampa taxi on a hot afternoon and Uber white drivers

The early morning street business in Tampa is very slow. The locals that would have called us in the morning to go to the airport are not calling. I have every reason to believe they have gone to Uber. These ride-share companies have made it seem cool to do so. Somehow, riding in a taxi is not so cool. Because of that, I have to work into the hot afternoon to try and keep up. Something has to give.

They are not saving money by calling Uber. In fact, they may even be hit with a surge charge during peak hours which the morning rush is considered. They are not getting a safer ride. Our cabs are routinely checked out mechanical and the scheduled maintenance is performed. Is there any guarantee that the Uber car has been treated in such fashion? Has the background of the Uber driver been checked out? No. You say you can use a credit card with Uber. You can with me. Ive got a credit card machine in the back of the taxi and it will print you out a receipt. There is no perceived advantage you can state that we don't have. What about their app? What about it? we have an excellent app.

Our app allows you book your cab. Locate it with a real time map. You can track its progress as it moves toward your location. We will even text you when the cab is arriving and when it has arrived. It will tell you to go outside, your cab is here.

So why do you use Uber? There is only one reason. YOU CAN ORDER UP A WHITE DRIVER.

That, I guess, is their main advantage.

  1. I'm a 59 y.o. Tampa native and, to be honest, this area has the crappiest cab service in the country. I've used lyft a few times and it's always been better, faster to respond and cheaper.. They rarely use surge pricing and, when they do, it's limited to 200% of regular pricing. Prices are given in advance, so no surprises. And, unlike what Yellow cab did, no Uber or Lyft driver has declared bankruptcy to avoid paying for an injury they caused. Are United and Yellow cabbies required to carry $1M in liability? Uber and Lift drivers do, and it's PRIMARY insurance. No gruff drivers, no filthy, stinking, beat up junkers with 300,000 miles on them that are allowed on the road without inspections just because they're under 10 years old. And no 45 minute wait times. If surge pricing is too high for you, you can cancel the request and wait an hour or so for a cab. Face it, taxicabs will go the way of the buggy whip. What will you cry about when the driverless cars are approved? Adapt or die. Don't worry. There are still a lot of old people who don't use smartphones. But when they're gone, you're gone. I hope you're nearing retirement age. As for your contention about using uber to choose a white driver, that's pretty ironic considering the no-so-subtle racism in your entry about Glo bottle club.

Pam Callahan Nature Preserve

I took a hike today in Pam Callahan Memorial Park and enjoyed this cool air. She was an environmental advocate who fought to protect this nature preserve from development. If you have a couple hours you can have a relaxing hike, and explore the new loop trail. What's cool is you will never know you are so close to civilization. I had fun.

Happy Hillary Halloween

Is there anything scarier than Hillary. Some would say Donald Trump, perhaps. My friend set this up on his porch and I thought it was pretty cool. It's not really a political statement, it's just trying to show humor. Keep in mind, that we do live in an era where people seem to have lost their sense of humor. Anyway, if he done it with Donald Trump I would have still laughed. Happy Halloween!

Las Vegas Taxi Shots

My new blog about Vegas taxi There is a rule of the jungle "adapt or perish." I try to live by that in how I approach taxi driving. Dynamics change and you must be attuned to that and work in different ways. Uber presents something, however, that I can't adjust to. They have taken just too much from us. I don't know if I want to continue living in Tampa now. In the service industry, you can only make real money four months out of the year. The good news is today is the beginning of that four month run. The airport will be my only hope. I don't have it in me to keep going on after that, especially in the face of Uber. They have devastated the good street business we have had. This is a secret I did not want to revel to my readers. I will now. Its over. White people who do not want blacks to pick them up, have won. Uber riders can now get their Lilly white guy or girl to pick them up. Have fun. Uber will take that cease and desist letter from PTC and wipe their ...

BREAKING: HILLARY COLLAPSES IN NYC, STRUGGLES TO WALK, LOSES SHOE, RUSHE...

And you thought I was full of shit. Hillary is dying and needs to go to hospice and let the Presidency go to a more fit person. The lies are beyond belief. You liberals would vote for her if she was dead on election night and in a coffin. Alvin Toffler was right.

Joe Lopano forces Uber impact fees at Tampa International Airport which is highway robbery

I don't like being robbed at Tampa  International Airport The real reason Joseph W. Lopano let Uber and Lyft into TPA was he projected an increase in fees collected to be 5.2 million in the next two years. He seemed to view this as a revenue generating opportunity when the taxi companies were only able to come up with about 1.2 million a year. This was more than a reason to violate existing law. Joe Lopano (head of TPA) had a long range plan to soak the public and make a GIANT BONUS for himself. I wonder why he was fired in New York and flamed out in Dallas? Just wondering. The Tampa Bay Business Journal confirmed this fact the other day on their website. I knew he was corrupt and this proves it. Lopano stated that reason he let Uber and Lyft into the airport (violating the contract he had with the taxi companies) is he wanted to provide transportation alternatives to the traveling public. That was pure Bullshit. He simply saw how they could increase revenue long term by bilk...

David Bradford New York taxi photography

David Bradford isn't your average New York City taxi driver. His days "at the office" are directed by the skill that sets him apart from other taxi drivers: he's a photographer. Bradford's canvas is New York City as he sees it throughout his day, from a behind-the-steering-wheel vantage point. He has published several books, most notably "Drive-By Shootings: Photographs by a New York City Taxi Driver," and he was recently the subject of a New York Moment video, featured above. Bradford started out as a visual artist with an emphasis on drawing from photographs and a degree from Rhode Island School of Design in illustration. When he moved to NYC after graduating college, he began photographing NYC, originally as fodder for his drawings. But Bradford soon discovered that his photographs stood as pieces on their own and began pursuing the art form.

New Facebook background

This collage is now my background image to my FaceBook. You can find me at "Timothy Fasano" which is my original site. I have not been on it in a year and had a help of a time remembering the password. But I got it. I had 87 friends request and did not know a damn soul. posted from Bloggeroid

The Taxi Truman Show

I may have found the escape hatch Regulated Taxi driving is now dead. Uber has taken over. The current situation is no longer tenable for drivers who face an old model of cab leasing, and can no longer continue paying a Pre-Uber lease. Today was the tipping point. This time of year we should be very busy...EXTREMLY BUSY. We are not. It is dead as a doornail with drivers at the airport waiting up to 5 hours to a ride. It should be off the hook. It is for Uber. They pay no fee to the airport, yet they are allowed to operate. I made a good living for years. Transportation was regulated in Hillsborough County. This insured uniformity or rates, insurance, and accountability. But no more. The HCPTC has now allowed a gypsy cab company take over. Uber has not only taken some or part of our business - they have taken it all. This is because they are low balling the market in an attempt to establish a monopoly. They are well on their way to doing that with the compl...
