Chaos at the airport

What happens when 9,000 people from Ohio State want cabs at the same time because they need to get to the Buckeye cruise? Meltdown. There were no car rentals available at TIA and our starter was gone. The airport director was out trying to organize the plaintiff hoards.

For drivers, this was awesome. Its good to have people approaching your cab like a third world flash mob. This beats the help out of sitting around in the scorching heat of July, with nothing to do. Lets hope this keeps up.

    It is now $25 flat rate to downtown and most people give you $30.

    I usually work the Asheville Regional Airport but during tourist season (March through November) there are festivals and conventions and such, many nights it's worthwhile to cruise downtown after the airport is done. There are so many flaggers, Asheville actually has "gypsy cabs". When Widespread Panic came to town they played 2 nights and it was awesome, worked till 5AM ferrying people from the Civic Center to their hotels and homes, each time I returned to the venue I was frickin mobbed...

What happened to Tommy Duncan and Sticks of Fire blog?

The image below is a 2005 TBT article I still have about the Tampa blogger scene. The big boy was Tommy Duncan. He stopped blogging around 2008, and was never seen again. Here is what Creative Loafing said about that era: "The 40-something blogger founded the most-often-cited independent Tampa Bay news blog, Sticks of Fire, in Feb. 2004, and the site, without much financial assistance from advertising, is still going strong today with a stable of more than a dozen regular contributors. Las Vegas Taxi Shots

My new blog about Vegas taxi There is a rule of the jungle "adapt or perish." I try to live by that in how I approach taxi driving. Dynamics change and you must be attuned to that and work in different ways. Uber presents something, however, that I can't adjust to. They have taken just too much from us. I don't know if I want to continue living in Tampa now. In the service industry, you can only make real money four months out of the year. The good news is today is the beginning of that four month run. The airport will be my only hope. I don't have it in me to keep going on after that, especially in the face of Uber. Joe Lopano forces Uber impact fees at Tampa International Airport which is highway robbery

I don't like being robbed at Tampa  International Airport The real reason Joseph W. Lopano let Uber and Lyft into TPA was he projected an increase in fees collected to be 5.2 million in the next two years. He seemed to view this as a revenue generating opportunity when the taxi companies were only able to come up with about 1.2 million a year. This was more than a reason to violate existing law. Joe Lopano (head of TPA) had a long range plan to soak the public and make a GIANT BONUS for himself. I wonder why he was fired in New York and flamed out in Dallas? Just wondering. The Tampa Bay Business Journal confirmed this fact the other day on their website. I knew he was corrupt and this proves it. Ivy Farms pool part of history

I found this article on the Daily Press website. It will mean nothing to anyone but it means a lot to me. This article wad written in 1993 when the possibility of closing Ivy Farms pool was real. I hear in 2010 it was demolished by the city. Just another nail in my coffin. I always wanted to get up there and swim one more lap. Bay and Beach taxi van service

Working hard to secure Tampa airport,cruise and hotel service, it seems now Bay and Beach taxi are now using vans with horse trailers (you can see the trailer behind the van). They can move more people and luggage with those. The picture here was taken at the airport and a ton of people got off. Nancy has modern ideas about customer service , and how to run a fleet. Fall Colors in Tampa

I love this time of year They say the leaves don't turn color in central Florida. They cypress trees do. November is the time of year they start to fire up with the traditional fall colors of the northeast. The problem is so many people are busy making a living, they don't have time to smell the roses. As a taxi cab driver, and a photographer, I no where to go to find the best images. Today, the weather was perfect. This one is a keeper.

Cigar City Cabbie

Go to www.timfasano.com I heard United Cab was going to sue Uber and the HCPTC. I heard the drivers were going to sue Uber, Tampa Airport, HCPTC and others. Frankly, I am tired of hearing all this shit. Nobody really gives a fuck about this massive gypsy cab company. My only hope may be Donald Trump. I read that there are now over 1 million Uber drivers nationwide. That is an enormous figure. I think the only reason these people get this gig is because there are no jobs in the country that are worth a shit. I think what most of these drivers want is a good job with benefits. Perhaps, if that stuff was out there, the number of dumb shits doing the Uber gig would go way down. I know the ad says "get your side-hustle on." There is no hustle to what they do. Hustle is what I do on a daily basis to make my money. I have to ad lib the entire day and make opportunities happen. Sorry Uber scum...waiting for a ping is not a "hustle." Happy Hillary Halloween

Is there anything scarier than Hillary. Some would say Donald Trump, perhaps. My friend set this up on his porch and I thought it was pretty cool. It's not really a political statement, it's just trying to show humor. Keep in mind, that we do live in an era where people seem to have lost their sense of humor. Monday morning

Business has been slow. I'm not going to beat around the bush. I need shoes and shoe strings. I am broke and struggling. I am tired, frustrated, and dealing with real anger issues. I need time off, money, and rest. I can find none of this. My entire situation sucks. I want to blame someone. What compounds all of this are drivers willing to work around the clock for scant money (that forces me to do the same). I am exhausted and wish I could get a break. I do think one is coming up. United Cab is doing all they can do but the economy has greatly increased their expenses. I do hope to have a happier post at the end if the day.
