Hillsborough County Public Transportation Commission yesterday sent Uber a stop order. Their legal division was advised that criminal prosecution was the next step if they do not comply. This is a wonderful way to close out 2014 and hope that 2015 will be the year when law and order are restored.
A contact I have with the commission gave me the copy of the letter above.
Remember people of Tampa - if you use Uber you are using an illegal business with no insurance. You will also be charged tonight 10 times the normally rate. They call it "surge pricing." The law calls it gouging which is illegal in Florida.
This is today's front page in the TBT exposing the Uber rip-off.
Guess that is good news in Hillsborough. Too bad many other cities are allowing it, like Seattle. Uber has billions to use to pay off politicians so who knows how it will end.
ReplyDeleteas an Uber driver who was at one time an upper management position for the same company you drive for, I picked up 18 times New Years Eve, 12 in Tampa and 6 in St. Pete and booked $336 from 8 PM til 5AM, drove 142 miles and used $14.00 in fuel.
ReplyDeleteFor the last 7 days ending on 12/31, my profit was $965.00 for about 55 hours of work in my 2008 Toyota Camry. No cops messed with me. In fact, while picking up at the Hyatt my Uber placard on the inside of dash was noticed by TPD officer but he opened my door for passenger going to Downtown St. Pete for 41 bucks. 17 years in the cab between United and Yellow Pinellas...Good riddance.
For the past 3 months, I have averaged $17.50/hr!!!
Thanks Uber
PS. Yes I have been set up by HTC, but since riders are rated it was easy to spot the fraud as a cop!!!
