I did not know my hair had gotten this gray. The stress from social media and seven years of recession has taken its toll.

  1. Gray is the sign of wisdom. Be not discouraged. As RIchard Pryor said, " You don't get to be old by being a fool - all those fool young muther f'er's dead ! "

Xzanthia has moved away

Xzanthia I found this on an old TBT. If you remember back in 2007, I had the honor of shooting Xzanthia in an art nude shoot. The recession hit and I could not keep up my craft. She was a fantastic model and artist and held events at her fathers nudist resort. I now know now she has moved onto other things. I wish her well. Her and her father were top notch. "Through festivals, parties and an artists’-colony sense of camaraderie, the Pasco County performance artist created an enclave of creativity and diversity in Tampa Bay at the  Riverboat Nudist Colony  in Land O’Lakes. Her work with the band  Impotent Sea Snakes , her XBash Music Festival  and her legendary  foam parties have made her a fixture of Tampa Bay’s underground art scene. But after years spent working to connect and create a community, she has decided to leave. Citing a desire to de-complicate her life and focus on her art, XZanthia is moving away. She remains positive about the Tampa Bay ...

2017 a year of Redemption and Reconstruction

Tampa Bay on New Years day sunrise 2017 Have you ever felt defeated? Have you ever felt like you're life has stalled out? Have you ever felt like giving up? I have. The last ten years of  the taxi business have just about done me in. It has been miserable with a bad economy that was near a depression and it took everything I could do to just survive. I made no money. In short, I suffered badly. (I will not mention Tampa taxi politics. The companies did what they had to do to survive. Their actions were not often in my best interest.) My only hope was that the economy would get better. It began to. And as it did, Uber came along. That was the death kneel. Talk about timing. For ten years my life has been in purgatory and I almost died. The stress and the bad food left me with chronic heart failure. My weight had climbed to 295lbs (I am 5'8"). My blood pressure was 210/150. By rights, I should not be alive. The doctor sent me to the emergency room. He later t...

My Health is the big reason I am working out

Too much fast food is the bain of cab driving. You find yourself eating most of your meals out of a bag that has been handed to you through a drive threw window. There are, however, consequences. Gout is a very painful form of arthritus. It may be caused by lifestyle, primarily eating an indulgent diet. I have read that there is also a hereditary component that may make 75% of its victims suseptable to it. That some people have an inherent abnormality that does not allow them to process uric acid. So  it may not be related to diet It hurts  man and you don't want it. This time the Doctor prescribed for me a new medicene you many have seen on TV, called ULORIC. It is supposed to disolve the crystals in your joints that the uric acid causes. High levels of uric acid is the cause of gout. There was a slight problem, however. The medicine is very expensive and I just cannot afford it. After the two week free sample is up, its back to pain for me. I have no idea why ...

An old cab driver and a new business model

(I posted this in 2009 when things really sucked) Meet Larry. He retired a few years ago after a long time with United Cab of Tampa. He got out at the right time because it all fell apart in 2008. Not only do we have half the calls - we have twice the drivers. Plus, lease and gas are much higher ($510 a week with holidays and birthdays taken away). Now, I hear the company is raising leases again to $535 a week while they hire more & more drivers. When I see new drivers starting out, I ask myself why. With the high operating cost, lack of calls and tons of cabs, the prospects of making real money is gone. We MUST work 365 days a year to eat dog food. Larry, be glad you were here for the good times. It was good to be a driver then. Now, the taxi companies in Tampa have it all coming their way. Enjoy your retirement.

Epicurian Hotel Tampa needs to raise its game

The new Epicurean hotel on south Howard in Tampa has quickly developed a bad reputation among cab drivers. They will call for a taxi, and when you arrive, they tell you your fate is already gone. This is happening so much, United Cab dispatch mostly flags the calls. The hotel prefers to use car services like the illegal Flex Sedans. I have heard they are not charging the required $50 minimum, but charging taxi rates. That violates HCPTC rules. Here are some photos of the scum loading my fares after I was sent there. They are bad people.

The neon graveyard

The neon graveyard Way off the strip is an area where few tourist ever go. Its a cemetery. An enterrement of Vegas's past, a place where old neon signs go when they die. Their useful expectancy extinguished not by age or function, but by form. Considered antiquated by modern marketing, here they lie, martyrs in Cupids wars (love, lust, and sin) They remain in a lot surrounded by a security fence with barbed wire. Relics shining in the hot Nevada sun like the fuselage of a wrecked bomber in the desert, who's occupants abandoned in search of rescue, only to be consumed by the elements and scavenging birds. In this case, it was the plaintiff scrum of normal people seeking a Caligula's playhouse. It is a testament to an era long gone. Crooners and class have given in to ass. Sex will always win. Even the sin sign could not last. Awesome view from each room at the Plaza The mob is no more as the corporations have taken over. There was a low rent charm to the old Vegas....

Looking behind

Elena wondered why I was missing such a beautiful sunrise. We would not have even had this conversation if she had been out on time. There are lots of clouds in the atmosphere this time of year and often there are spectacular sunrises and sunsets. I did get a photo of Elena taking the Facebook photo. The sun is rising earlier and in 3 weeks its the summer solstice...the longest day of the year. I still prefer winter sunrise. posted from Bloggeroid

Uber killed the taxi business during Gasparilla

Uber killed the taxi business in Tampa today. The Pirate Festival today is traditionally considered the busiest day of the year for taxi drivers. Today, it was like a slow Tuesday. When I say they did not take half the business or most of the business, I would be miss speaking. They took it all. Based on what happened today street level taxi driving in Tampa is now over. That is not an exaggeration. It is a reality. If not for the medical charges that I run Monday through Friday, and the right to work the airport, there would be no business left. Yes you would have the poor sections of town in the minority communities that over does not work but that would not be enough to even pay the lease. This gig is over. The handwriting is on the wall. That is why I am glad to be transitioning into other opportunities. There is no way this business can sustain itself at this point.
