Island time

The sun sets every night
For years I lived on Island time. That is why I became a cab driver. I did not want to punch a time clock. I wanted to forge my own way, and come and go as I pleased. Things have changed and I've had to reorganize my life so I am sort of getting a weekly pay check.

The major reason for this is Uber. They have cherry picked all the good business and left us with poor people at laundry mats and grocery stores, going around the corner for 3-4 dollars. You can't make it on that. When I was a real cab driver, each day was an adventure. I got to pick up all kinds of people and see the world thru their eyes. It was actually fun.

When I was in the newspaper business, I had to arrive when they wanted me to. I had to work the days they made me work. I could only make the income they dictated I would make. I was actually glad when my department was downsized out of existence for I could now take off in the direction I was meant to go. Since I knew I wanted to be self employed, I became a cab driver. The customers are now your boss but at least I did not have some dickhead leaning over my shoulder all day long.

Uber has kicked all this to the curb. I am now following a ridged schedule of picking up medical charges. My day is laid out in advance and I don't have much choice in the situation. The irony is I'm making a more consistent income which I need right now. At my station in life right now, I would not be able to handle the uncertainty of trying to live only off street calls. You could do it but you would have to work 'round the clock. I'm too old for that and I don't have the inclination anyway.

The rule of the jungle is adapt or parish. Since I have no interest of perishing professionally or otherwise, I adapted. I don't like change but had no choice. I would be under now if I had continued in the same path. All of this because of Uber.

How an unregulated company can be allowed to operate without following any requirements by the oversight commissions is something I did not think I would ever see. The politicians are cowards. Uber is so popular among the young people, they are afraid they will be voted out of office.

I have seen them in action they are cunts. They are weak-kneed jelly fish. Donald Trump says are leaders are stupid. I don't know about that but they sure have no backbone and no concept of upholding the law. One senator for the Tampa area said he would be afraid to answer the phone in his office if he did anything to stop Uber. He lacks balls. No doubt. I could do a better job then he does.

When I was young I used to believe the politicians were smarter then me. That they could be trusted to make the right decisions that would benefit my life. Boy how wrong was I.

Anyway, Island Time is good. I am now home each night at 5:30 which is BEER THIRTY. Not everything is bad. In fact, its better right now then ten years ago. Life moves on.

Be cautious of flaggers

Always use caution when picking up flaggers All taxi drivers need to be cautious of flaggers. When you see a stranger on the sidewalk, make sure you go by your gut before you let the person in your taxi. Who knows what may await you if you don't go by the "gut." Don't be tempted by a pretty lady. You may be surprised. Just to be fair about the matter...its not raining!!

Sleeping with the enemy

I sort of stick out in this sea of pink I always seem to get on TV. This is Tim Fasano (in the yellow shirt with camera) sitting in the room full of Lyft and Uber drivers. Did you ever feel really alone? These rideshare people are operating an illegal business that is cutting into my livelyhood, and I wanted the Hillsborough County Commission to know it. The Lyft drivers are a bunch of punks and  kids who have never worked a day in their lives. They will get whats coming to them. How do you spell douchebags? You will see me in the video shown on the local news.

RETIRED..what did you expect?

I have retired from taxi driving for good. I turned the keys in and walked away from 24 years on the streets. In a way, like Ronald Reagan said, the taxi business walked away from me. Anyway, I am home and doing nothing but getting caught up on a bunch of personal stuff. I am loving it. Check out this video about how I spend most mornings now. I have applied to work for Lyft and was approved, of course. I should be getting a new car next week and will be driving for them. Ride share has become the new taxi companies and they deliver what I am looking for. I have two monthly checks coming in which are enough to live off of. So don't worry about me. Its just that I was not exactly ready to retire but the circumstances gave me no choice. It does feel good, by the way.

Sukka the cat

There is a lady I pick up every morning that puts $100 in my pocket (paid by our great accounts). Her cat comes out and loves me and rubs up on me every morning. Uber has nothing like this. United Cab driver's are rocking out while Uber punks live for nine dollar fares that they have to give 20% to Ubet. Great gig guys. LOL! Sukka loves me because I am legal and you scum drivers suck hind tit...boys and girls. Get over it. I rule and make more in one hour then you do in one day. Plus, this kitty loves me! posted from Bloggeroid

Dana Young is a Liar or very confused about Uber

A very bad person with no honor or integrity I attended a meeting at the hockey arena downtown which was attended by all the Tampa Bay area state senators and representatives. In attendance was one Dana Young (R). When it was her time to speak, so told a story about a young women that was being raped. While the college student was being sexually assaulted, the student hit the Uber app on her phone and the police now knew the GPS coordinates of her location. What MS. Young did not disclose was that it happened on the UCLA campus and that it was an UBER DRIVER THAT WAS RAPING HER! "As students prepare to return to college, one thing female students cannot go without is caution. Assaults, especially sexual assaults, are a haunting part of daily life for so many students. Uber has made that nightmare even more of a reality . We tell our students that getting a driver when they’ve had too much to drink is the responsible course of action — it’...

BATS TAXI undercuts Tampa

I had a ride to the Tradewinds resort and we passed Bats Taxi on St. Petersburg Beach. I had to direct my fares attention from their marquee because the advertising a rate to Tampa International Airport of $54. My meter was already over $75 and I did not want to field questions about our higher rate. What I hear is Bats has the beach sowed up. They make their money on volume. Cool. I just hope their lease payment is lower then ours.

I voted

I voted for Rick Scott for Florida Governor. I felt he has done a responsible job. The state actually has a financial surplus because Scott cut all the pork out. We are not California which is insolvent after all the giveaway programs to poor Obama voters. Scott has kept regulations and taxes low creation a favorable business climate where firms are beginning to view Florida like Texas. Florida is poised for a massive boom. This is now going to be the place to be. I voted against the medical marijuana bill, as I did all constitutional amendments. The bills were vaguely worded and I believe deception was used to disguise their true intent. posted from Bloggeroid

Another fare killer

I saw this at Tampa airport this morning. Good, another hack thinking transportation is their way out of the trailer park. This is just a fact. The Tampa Bay area cannot support this many vehicles for hire. What is Express Taxi anyway?

Hillsborough County Public Transportation hearing on Lyft & Uber

Victor Crist the county commisioner and head of HCPTC I got a call from Rob Searcy yesterday. He wanted me to attend the Hillsborough County board hearing about letting ride-sharing companies such as Lyft and Uber coming into the area. They are already here. What I found amusing was that they were discussing the issue at all. let me explain. Rob Searcy defending our position I got my hair cut yesterday and could not help but notice the number of permits and licenses the barber had on his mirror. I guess that goes for any business. Could I set up a booze cart in front of a bar and sell liquor for half the bars price without a license? NO! There is no business in which you can do that. So, why is Hillsborough county even considering such a thing as illegal taxi services. All businesses have regulations based on the local, state, and federal laws. There people, however, think they are above the law. You could sense their arrogance. What I hear is that Victor Crist is leaving them...

National Taxi strike called for October 26, 2014 against Uber & Lyft

Following the crowd is the opposite of the Uber Man...They want your mind...don't let them have it! There is more at stake then a ride to work. The battle for man's mind has begun. The Internet has made many things possible and reacting with incomplete information has had a debilitating effect on peoples behaviour and mental acuity. The ability to assess facts accurately has been diminished. When wide swaths of hipsters chose to use a ride share company because it has a slick app, without considering the consequences to society, then harm is being done. Ignoring that modern society is structured by law - they proceed anyway. This course must be redirected Back in the dark ages, villagers and townspeople would often react to a rumor and then take action swiftly to bring justice upon the presumed guilty party without waiting for the authorities to resolve it. The more emotionally attached people were to the crime, the less real or confirmed information they needed to follow...
