I was there!

DSC_0091AThese is this guy from New York who does a taxi blog called Return Cabbie that actually tried to look me up when he was in Tampa two years ago. Unfortunately, it was at a time when my site was down and the email was not in use. I was unaware of his coming by. I just now found this blog post.
Whats crazy is that I WAS THERE when he came by. In fact, he took a photo my van parked across the street and he had no idea it was mine! I am one of the few United Cab drivers that park off lot. It seems he came by in the afternoon - right at the time I would be there. I really would have liked to have met him. I don't get many visitors and would have been flattered to know he came from New York to visit me. How cool is that! I wish he had asked Paul Hinto. He would have contacted me by cell. Now that I think about it, there was a commenter who moved to Tampa and drove taxi for a month. He wad from australia! This is what RETURN CABBIE had to say:
"I knew he drove for United Cab, and added stopping by his garage to my Tampa to-do list.
I arrived in Tampa last Thursday evening, picked up a rental car and, after dropping my stuff off at my hotel room, phoned a friend.  We made plans to link up within the hour.  I headed off over the Gandy Bridge to meet up with him, only to run into a horrendous thunder-and-lightning storm.  Torrential rainfall flooded the highway and power was intermittently knocked out, blocking the route and sending me back to my hotel.
That put me behind the eight ball for the first half of my Tampa Bay stay, as I rescheduled get-togethers and places I'd hoped to visit.  In the end, I got out and about quite a bit, including to the Salvador Dalí Museum, but didn't reach the United Cab garage -- under the big Gulf Coast Transportation sign at 1701 West Cass Street -- until around noon on Monday, just a few hours before my scheduled return flight to La Guardia.
DSC_0094AGulf Coast has a garage and office and sizeable lot, and runs both United Cab and Tampa Bay Cab.  It probably wasn't the right time of day to expect a shift change but I did run into a few drivers coming in and waiting to go out.  Not one of them knew Fasano, so it wasn't going to be my lucky day.  I learned that drivers had a choice to lease their cars for 12 or 24 hours but not much else.
Who knows, but maybe I'll get back to Tampa again one day.  In the meantime, Fasano goes onto my "missing persons" list. "
I see he has not posted in a year. I know how hard this blogging can be and coming up with new material is challenging. I seems he had someting going and should start back.

Comments

  1. Strangely enough I was myself in Tampa at about the same time and I was also there last year. The world is a small place.

What happened to Tommy Duncan and Sticks of Fire blog?

The image below is a 2005 TBT article I still have about the Tampa blogger scene. The big boy was Tommy Duncan. He stopped blogging around 2008, and was never seen again. Here is what Creative Loafing said about that era: "The 40-something blogger founded the most-often-cited independent Tampa Bay news blog, Sticks of Fire, in Feb. 2004, and the site, without much financial assistance from advertising, is still going strong today with a stable of more than a dozen regular contributors. In 2005, Duncan was featured in a tbt* story about the young lions of the local Internet. Today, about half of them have fallen by the wayside or (in the case of famous sexy blogger Rachel Moran) moved to New Jersey. Duncan keeps on posting. The local digital scene has grown, but he's not sure it has improved in quality."

The homeless in Tampa

I see it every day in Tampa. They seem to be at every intersection. Their pleas for help are drawn on the back of cardboard and they seem as common as the traffic lights themselves. Who are these people? What led them to the streets? Should I give them money? Whatever is going on in America is driving people to the street corners, and in Florida, the broiling afternoon sun to try and survive. Some people subscribe to the Urban Myth of the homeless guy “Flying a Sign” and making a couple hundred a day and then going home to his spread in the suburbs. I don’t know about that. Flying a sign does not seem to be a very profitable activity, considering the competition today. Some people believe we should give them a bag with some lame ass crackers and directions to a social center inside instead of money. I think the condition that exist today cannot be solved by directions to a county office. It is more chronic than that A few years ago, I considered these people to be bums. Nowadays, ...

Happy Hillary Halloween

Is there anything scarier than Hillary. Some would say Donald Trump, perhaps. My friend set this up on his porch and I thought it was pretty cool. It's not really a political statement, it's just trying to show humor. Keep in mind, that we do live in an era where people seem to have lost their sense of humor. Anyway, if he done it with Donald Trump I would have still laughed. Happy Halloween!

I was on a radio show

I was on the "Squatch Detective" radio show last night. Steve Kills is the host and the one that blew the lid on the 2008 Bigfoot in the freezer hoax. Steve wanted me in the show because my fame and reputation is spreading. I do more work then the FINDING BIGFOOT show in Animal Planet and I've found more evidence. I will put up the show on this blog when Steve releases the archives. posted from Bloggeroid

Las Vegas Taxi Shots

My new blog about Vegas taxi There is a rule of the jungle "adapt or perish." I try to live by that in how I approach taxi driving. Dynamics change and you must be attuned to that and work in different ways. Uber presents something, however, that I can't adjust to. They have taken just too much from us. I don't know if I want to continue living in Tampa now. In the service industry, you can only make real money four months out of the year. The good news is today is the beginning of that four month run. The airport will be my only hope. I don't have it in me to keep going on after that, especially in the face of Uber. They have devastated the good street business we have had. This is a secret I did not want to revel to my readers. I will now. Its over. White people who do not want blacks to pick them up, have won. Uber riders can now get their Lilly white guy or girl to pick them up. Have fun. Uber will take that cease and desist letter from PTC and wipe their ...

The Real Tim Fasano on Blogger

After a speed workout today Go to www.realtimfasano.blogspot.com for my personal post. This blog should just be about Tampa and taxi driving. I am slowly going to move over to my personal blog. You can also go to www.timfasano.com and find it. Go to it NOW!

Finally some cool weather

It should be very comfortable and dry in Tampa for the next 7 days. This is what I have been waiting for. Time to put some Irish cream in my afternoon coffee. The Tampa Tribune ran a headline article the other day asking what happened to winter. I don't know that but it might make up for it in spades. posted from Bloggeroid

BREAKING: HILLARY COLLAPSES IN NYC, STRUGGLES TO WALK, LOSES SHOE, RUSHE...

And you thought I was full of shit. Hillary is dying and needs to go to hospice and let the Presidency go to a more fit person. The lies are beyond belief. You liberals would vote for her if she was dead on election night and in a coffin. Alvin Toffler was right.

Monday morning

Business has been slow. I'm not going to beat around the bush. I need shoes and shoe strings. I am broke and struggling. I am tired, frustrated, and dealing with real anger issues. I need time off, money, and rest. I can find none of this. My entire situation sucks. I want to blame someone. What compounds all of this are drivers willing to work around the clock for scant money (that forces me to do the same). I am exhausted and wish I could get a break. I do think one is coming up. United Cab is doing all they can do but the economy has greatly increased their expenses. I do hope to have a happier post at the end if the day.

Bay and Beach taxi van service

Working hard to secure Tampa airport, cruise and hotel service, it seems now Bay and Beach taxi are now using vans with horse trailers (you can see the trailer behind the van). They can move more people and luggage with those. The picture here was taken at the airport and a ton of people got off. Nancy has modern ideas about customer service , and how to run a fleet. Just saying. I am sitting like a lump this morning when I should be moving. We have lost so much business. Related articles Hanging out in holding Republican National Convention in Tampa
