National Taxi strike called for October 26, 2014 against Uber & Lyft

Following the crowd is the opposite of the Uber Man...They want your mind...don't let them have it!
There is more at stake then a ride to work. The battle for man's mind has begun. The Internet has made many things possible and reacting with incomplete information has had a debilitating effect on peoples behaviour and mental acuity. The ability to assess facts accurately has been diminished. When wide swaths of hipsters chose to use a ride share company because it has a slick app, without considering the consequences to society, then harm is being done. Back in the dark ages, villagers and townspeople would often react to a rumor and then take action swiftly to bring justice upon the presumed guilty party without waiting for the authorities to resolve it. Social media is controlling people and creating the modern ant hill that Nietzsche's Uber Man stood against. If you want to be progressive, consider all facts. In fact, we will make the hipsters consider them.

On October 26, 2014 there will be a nationwide taxi work stoppage. It will last from Sunday 6:00 AM until Monday 6:00 AM. No airports, NFL Football games, cruise ships, tourist attractions, and poor people without apps (the people Uber and Lyft ignore) will be served. Thousands of people will be stranded. Welcome to the herd.

The local politicians will then see how important taxi cabs are to modern societies. The logistics just don't work without us. We do follow the law. It is time everyone else does.

    IMHO, instead going on 24 hrs strike, they should dump 10-20 cabs on approach to Tampa airport at 7 am, so it is completely blocked off, get drivers out of there, so they can not be charged with any criminal behaviour and call CNN or other independent media to cover the story, how Uber and Lyft are twisting local laws, paying off politicians and lying to the public.

      dream on, the taxi bosses are not gonna go for it , they want their freaking lease money, no matter what, even if you have to rob the bank or uber drivers ;)

      I like the idea of blocking the approach into the airport. Must have mediavready to go live. Same at cruise terminal.

      thing like this, would have to be well organized, with spokesperson explaining to media what is going on, a lawyer to defend taxi companies and taxi drivers against possible legal repercussions, some union organization for advice, etc.

The Taxi Truman Show

I may have found the escape hatch Regulated Taxi driving is now dead. Uber has taken over. The current situation is no longer tenable for drivers who face an old model of cab leasing, and can no longer continue paying a Pre-Uber lease. Today was the tipping point. This time of year we should be very busy...EXTREMLY BUSY. We are not. It is dead as a doornail with drivers at the airport waiting up to 5 hours to a ride. It should be off the hook. It is for Uber. They pay no fee to the airport, yet they are allowed to operate. I made a good living for years. Transportation was regulated in Hillsborough County. This insured uniformity or rates, insurance, and accountability. But no more. The HCPTC has now allowed a gypsy cab company take over. Pam Callahan Nature Preserve

I took a hike today in Pam Callahan Memorial Park and enjoyed this cool air. She was an environmental advocate who fought to protect this nature preserve from development. If you have a couple hours you can have a relaxing hike, and explore the new loop trail. What's cool is you will never know you are so close to civilization. I had fun.

The REDSKINS are in town

The Washington REDSKINS!!! Just arrived at Tampa stadium. The buses just went into the tunnel and the police are blocking off the roads. I hate that. Las Vegas Taxi Shots

My new blog about Vegas taxi There is a rule of the jungle "adapt or perish." I try to live by that in how I approach taxi driving. Dynamics change and you must be attuned to that and work in different ways. Uber presents something, however, that I can't adjust to. They have taken just too much from us. I don't know if I want to continue living in Tampa now. In the service industry, you can only make real money four months out of the year. The good news is today is the beginning of that four month run. The airport will be my only hope. I don't have it in me to keep going on after that, especially in the face of Uber. The political decision process on Uber

Today at the hockey arena in downtown Tampa, all of the local Tampa Bay state representatives and senators gathered  for the transportation hearing. What was first and foremost on the agenda was the subject of uber and its relationship to the Tampa Bay community. Both sides offered their reasons many of them anecdotal in nature. (Senator Jeff Brandes from St Petersburg, the one Center in the picture, came across as an arrogant asshole. He was rude and belligerent and combative with all speakers. This is an example of someone who bullied his way into a political position, no doubt. Sorry for the sidebar). State senator Arthenia Joyner was the best of the lot. She asked the most pointed questions and dug deep into the real issues. She pointed out to the room that seemed surprised to find out that all of the fees that apply to the cab companies by regulation uber has none of that.
