Why Uber ain't so uber

From the Bangor Daily News : If you can dispute any of these facts, comment below. Uber driver beat the shit out of this passenger "When I first heard about the driving service, Uber , coming to Portland, something just didn’t sound right. I had heard of Uber, and companies like it before, but never really given it much thought. After a quick Google search to see how their business model breaks down, red flags immediately went off in the “these workers are being exploited” zone. There are countless stories out there on the internet of Uber drivers being taken advantage of in the name of corporate profits, but the typical story line goes something like this: -Uber announces they’re coming to town, then runs a huge hiring campaign in search of drivers. -During the hiring campaign, Uber claims that drivers will make upwards of $20 an hour, then encourages people desperate for a living wage to take out leases on cars to become drivers. -After the initial buzz wears off and...

Uber works the five dollar fares on Howard (big fucking deal)

Former taxi driver...will he rip you off? Uber driver Daryl Rodgers knows what he will find when driving after midnight on the weekends. “I had a lot of people who couldn’t tell what they remember from that night, they would pass out in my passenger seat until I got to their destination,” said Rodgers. The number of DUI arrest made by Tampa Police has dropped dramatically this year. For the first six months of 2014 TPD made 1124 dui arrest. In the same period in 2015 they made 776 arrests for driving while intoxicated. And Uber could be one of the reasons. Tampa Police began late in 2014 working with South Tampa bars to trained bartenders and valets to spot impaired drivers and suggest they find another way, like Uber home. TPD spokeswoman Andrea Davis tells 8 On Your Side that valet drivers have been advised to notify them when an impaired driver gets behind the wheel. But 8 On Your Side also noticed that many of the places that Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office found that ...

A Shit Ticket

Bad news. Jacamino was willing to sir on a call for two hours waiting for it to come out. We call that sand bagging. I call it "a shit ticket." There was so much business going on you couldn't shake a stick at it. Why tie yourself up like this in such a myopic way. Suit yourself dumbass. I made more money during the same time you ran the shit ticket. If Uber is around, you would not have known it today. posted from Bloggeroid

Uber headquarters raided in Hong Kong drivers arrested

Its the same song and dance with Uber. Wherever they go worldwide, they ignore and violate the law. Do you people understand that? " Uber’s worldwide expansion plans have hit yet another legal bump. Five Uber drivers were arrested in Hong Kong yesterday, allegedly for operating without a hire car permit and driving without proper insurance. Two of Uber’s local offices were also raided and three staff members detained, according to the the South China Morning Post. Hong Kong police senior inspector Bruce Hung told reporters that undercover police officers used an app to call five cars and arrested the drivers after reaching their destination. The arrests come a few weeks after protests against Uber and other car-hailing apps began to intensify, with traditional taxi drivers claiming that their counterparts operate without a hire car permit. During a demonstration at the end of July, To Sun-tong, a spokesman for the Motor Transport Workers General Union, said some of its...

Police said Uber drivers real job was selling drugs

If you were a drug dealer, having another job that pays you to drive around town would probably complement your endeavor. Yeah? Glendale police this week say 23-year-old Artak Avakian is an Uber driver who "used the position as a cover to sell drugs," according to a statement. Cops arrested Avakian at 4 p.m. on Tuesday after receiving a tip that he's a "suspected drug dealer," they said.  The dumb shit circuit judge in Florida that ruled against background checks for Uber drivers said there was no evidence to show cabs were safer. Arrest happen everyday with Uber drivers. Does that judge ever read the newspaper. posted from Bloggeroid

More Ybor City chickens

Their numbers are growing (like Uber drivers) as I see chickens in Ybor City every time I go down there. The tradition of free range chicken among the Spanish is alive and well in the old sections of Tampa. I guess they don't bother anyone and they do make a fine meal. posted from Bloggeroid

The Howling Hack

Let's take it over to The Howling Hack blog . Its closer to where I'm at now, living life in the Uber era. posted from Bloggeroid

Tampa to continue ticketing Uber and Lyft drivers

Uber Drivers protest the ticketing of drivers It seems the war has only started. The Transportation Commission is not going to let up on the illegal ride share drivers. They have been warned and they are a menace to society. Now, it seems they are the ones protesting. There were about 20 drivers outside the county building while a meeting was going on about trantransportation. They wanted their voice heard, I guess. Their major claim is that the HCPTC protects and outdated form of business. The claim taxi companies are actually a monopoly. This is not true. There are about 48 taxi companies iandin Tampa growing. Bids are taken on medallions every year and the majority of them go to private owners. The Big taxi companies have enough cars to manage and do not want to match active cars with working medamedallions if there are no drivers. What will become a monopoly is Uber. The history of this country has shown that natural monopolies occur when capitalism is UNREGULATED. Have y...

Can Uber driver do this?

I drive a taxi to make money. I won't give my service away. It is too valuable. Therefore, I often get sweet rides out of the airport that can be very lucrative, especially when they use a corporate credit card. I really can't see the point of getting $39 for this trip (Uber Rate) when its my gas, my time, wear and tear on my car, and no way to get a tip. They should let their drivers rate Uber. The reviews would site broken promises and false hopes of easy money. Its when you get a long-haul trip with Uber that you realize how little you actually make. posted from Bloggeroid

Everyone will hate Uber (unless you buy drugs from their drivers)

Uber drivers rape passengers, stalk women, jerk off in front of male passengers, and in Tampa use the guise of Uber to mule drugs. Yes, the modern drug dealer supplements his deals. And if course the retard circuit judge in Tampa had no clue this is going on. I see it first hand.

Requiem for the taxi industry

We lost. Its over. Uber won in court. A republican judge ignored law and ruled Uber to be legal. They do not abide by regulations but politicians and judges don't care. The number of lives that are adversely affected by Circuit Judge Huey is immeasurable. I should be upset but I'm not. Actually, I'm over it. I have moved on. I am making money off of YouTube and will soon open a new moneymaking channel along with my swimming blog. I am done with taxi driving. The hipsters want Uber so bad, they can have it. I hope you people enjoy paying 10x fare when there are no taxis left or a regulatory agency to protect them. You fools. Go to www.timswims.blogspot.com if you want to know what happened to me. I am achieving something over there. posted from Bloggeroid

Los Angeles Times today exposed Uber

At least four men who were ticketed by Los Angeles International Airport Police while driving for Uber’s low-cost car service have criminal convictions that would bar them from operating a taxi in Los Angeles, records show. The drivers have been convicted of child exploitation, identity theft, manslaughter and driving under the influence, according to court records. Each offense would make them ineligible for a city of Los Angeles taxi permit. The criminal histories recently came to light when a representative of the taxi industry presented a city official with a binder containing citations and court records for eight Uber drivers who were cited for minor violations at the airport over the last 18 months. The Times obtained a copy and independently confirmed that the records were accurate. Still think Uber is safe? posted from Bloggeroid

No Uber service in Ft Lauderdale, Florida

Uber's departure from Broward County isn't just a bummer for bargoers and tourists, the company says its contracted drivers felt the loss too. The ride-sharing company says more than 40,000 users tried to access its app from 7 a.m. on Friday to midnight on Sunday in the county, but could not get a ride from the company because it suspended its services July 31. Be safe people. Use a legal taxi service that follows the law. I am available 24 hours a day for your service. posted from Bloggeroid

Tropical floods hit Tampa again

I had to abandon by car and walk home in knee deep water. The storm hit at morning rush and many motorist flooded their cars. No doubt destroying the engine. Every street I looked down in my walk home (more like Fording a river) cars dead in the water were everywhere. This is getting old. I long for the old days of afternoon storms during the Sumner. We have not seen the sunshine in 21 days. I miss it. Cars dead in the water My feet in the middle of the street. posted from Bloggeroid

Jameis Winston - AMERICA'S QUARTERBACK

There should many moments of glory in Tampa Bay Jameis Winston began his run for Super Bowl MVP yesterday in the blinding rain at Buccaneer training camp. You can see from the video below, there is a lot to work on. It was raining and he must have been excited. I am really glad football season is here. Taxi drivers make real money at these games and Uber is not allowed to pick up. There is a taxi and limo area...not an Uber/Lyft area.

Flood in Tampa

Tampa had record rainfall today. I have lived in Tampa Bay area for over 35 years and I have never seen it rain this hard. In fact, by 2 p.m. there was a record amount of rain. According to the Bay News 9 app on my phone the band of bad weather was moving in the moving in hard. I, like many others, was attempting to get to the safety of home. I did not make it. I had to seek high ground just blocks from where I live because the water was rising visibly. I was lucky more than others because I did not flood out. While waiting for the water to subside I walked over to Kennedy Boulevard and was astonished at what I saw. The water line was over the curb in the parking lot and up to the building structures themselves. Multiple cars have been abandoned because their engines had taken on water. It look like a disaster zone. It look like the road to Bagdad after the Allied bombing. It is amazing how just water can cause such problems. Many people suffered today and this is just an inkling of w...
