I joined USMS and TBAM

I joined the United States Masters Swimming Association and designated Tampa Bay Aquatic as my team. I went to their workout this morning and met the president Scott and the head coach. They are a championship team, and have won many local meets. As my conditioning improves, I will eventually swim in a meet. I will proudly represent them one day. They have organized socials and fun events. I look forward to making new friends. posted from Bloggeroid

I showed good speed on the main set and need to do another 500 test set because the intervals are getting easier. Bobby Hicks Pool will be SCY in the afternoons starting next week. Cool. Looking behind

Elena wondered why I was missing such a beautiful sunrise. We would not have even had this conversation if she had been out on time. There are lots of clouds in the atmosphere this time of year and often there are spectacular sunrises and sunsets. I did get a photo of Elena taking the Facebook photo. The sun is rising earlier and in 3 weeks its the summer solstice...the longest day of the year. I still prefer winter sunrise. posted from Bloggeroid

The price of freedom

When your having your backyard cookout today, take time to reflect on the fallen. We must always be vigilant in the preservation of liberty. posted from Bloggeroid

A sandbag job

I often see this taxi going up Memorial during the last segment of Coast 2 Coast radio, just before 5am. He is on his way to a sandbag job just like me. Some of those Logisticare charges are so lucrative, you must go after them. They can pay your lease for the day, putting you in a position to make money. Nothing else, it just takes the pressure off of you. posted from Bloggeroid

8 weeks to a 5K

I got the C25K app and did my first workout today. The program is designed to get you ready for a 5K in 8 weeks. I've got a long way to go but quitting does not compute with me. With the swimming and weight training, I should be in great shape come July. posted from Bloggeroid

Roll over for the taxi

Every day when I pull up at this house, this kitty rolls over on her back. She is really glad to see the taxi. Why do cats do that? Its a show of affection and when I get out of the cab, she rubs up against me. Many people think cats are nor friendly. That is so nor true. Don't get me wrong, she is quite the hunter. She seems to hunt at night when she has a tactical advantage. Cats can see part of the infrared band, combined with being a black cat, Sukka is bad luck for a lot of small game. posted from Bloggeroid

HCPT talks to Uber and Lyft drivers and passengers...WHY!?

This is what we should be doing in Tampa...Paris taxi drivers protest The makes no sense. We are going on another summer and the HCPTC is still negotiating and giving these Uber scum a forum. Why Goddamit! What part of illegal do you fuck heads at the PTC not understand? Don't you realize that your need of Viagra is going to kill off major industries! Perhaps its time the drivers took it to the streets. Remember Jimmy Hoffa

I've added jogging and bodybuilding

Dive in. The water is fine. Tim's turnaround is on the way. Three days a week in the gym, three swimming workouts, and three jogging workouts. In fact, I have started the C25K program "from the couch to a 5K in 8 weeks." I downloaded the app and have done my first session covering 1.2 miles. You may wonder what all this workout stuff has to do with cab driving. A lot. Its a very unhealthy profession in which most die young. Many drivers I knew 20 years ago are gone. Few make it 60. I don't want that for myself. I was told my blood pressure was deadly. This regimen is to save my life. Plus, its fun. posted from Bloggeroid

Hillary and her failed campaign

Why do people still support these folks? People who have been around a while are more than familiar with the Clinton tactics. Are you surprised that Hillary would announce a national campaign for president of the United States, the most important job in the world, and disappear from sight? She has been unavailable to the press or anyone else. Does this inspire you? Even if you are a major Clinton supporte, this must trouble you. Refusing to give any answers or explain your positions concerns me deeply. This is a tactic that was used by the Clintons in the 1990s prior to social media. They have failed to understand that their numbers are beginning to drop because of invisibility. I spoke to a fare i had in my taxi today and I said this would be a tactic I would use as a political consultant to hide a candidate who was an idiot.  I would not want het to get anywhere near a microphone. If Hillary Clinton is supposed to be one of the most intelligent women in the world, then why are

Tom was a big help

I was having trouble with my tablet where I just could not sign in. As it happened, Tom had just dropped off in the Town & Country area. Tom used to be a dispatcher and he did go to Virginia Tech. He's pretty clever with devices so he caught up with me. No problem, I was up and running soon. With computer dispatch, if your system goes down, you are screwed. You may as well have dropped a transmission. You are immobilized and cannot work. Eddie (the tech guy) works Normal business hours. You can tell by the photo its the middle of night. I wonder if there's a place in the universe where Murphy's Law does not work, or is it a cosmic axiom doomed to follow future space explorers. I mean, we thought Newton was correct about gravity. It seemed impossible that he could have been wrong. Can you say E=MC2? posted from Bloggeroid

Long Term Goals

Concentration curls The easiest thing in the world is too give up. To do something for the 1,000 time, you must do it for the first time. Each day will ad on to what has preceded it. Success is building today onto what you have already achieved. When I was young I was always told that winners never quit. They were right - LOSERS Do. I just listened to a radio show where Mike Alstot said with the Bucs under Tony Dungy it was all about Honor - Commitment - Integrity. Success cannot be built without it. Use weight you can handle This movement is great for swimming which I do for my cardio

THE GOLD MEDAL WORKOUT PLAN

Bob Bowman (the coach of Michael Phelps) has revolutionized swim training. Gone are the days of endless lap swimming. The modern approach is to work different energy systems, mostly at the high aerobic range. He collaborated on an article in Men's Health magazine where he outlined how a recreational swimmer could get into great shape. I have modeled what I'm doing after this plan. Explaining the system The page below is the week by week program. Later Bowman explains that by changing distances and pace he's working all of the body's energy systems. But the prime target, for both Phelps's three-hour workout and my Mini Me version, is the upper aerobic range. Bowman does relatively little slow and steady lap work; likewise, he's leery about too much sprinting, which can break young swimmers' bodies down. His forte is miles of brisk tempo work, extending his swimmers' aerobic ranges so they can handle more distance and speed without going into oxyg

Wear your seat belts

Wear our seat belt Please wear your seat belt at all times. You never know when you might be distracted when driving. Something could happen if you take your eyes off the road. You don't want to take your eyes off the road. So have your passengers wear theirs too.

The Fasano family home in Polk county

I had a recent trip to Polk county out of the airport and swung by the old family house. I did not stay long. The sight of others living there was not good. I left. posted from Bloggeroid

An old cab driver and a new business model

(I posted this in 2009 when things really sucked) Meet Larry. He retired a few years ago after a long time with United Cab of Tampa. He got out at the right time because it all fell apart in 2008. Not only do we have half the calls - we have twice the drivers. Plus, lease and gas are much higher ($510 a week with holidays and birthdays taken away). Now, I hear the company is raising leases again to $535 a week while they hire more & more drivers. When I see new drivers starting out, I ask myself why. With the high operating cost, lack of calls and tons of cabs, the prospects of making real money is gone. We MUST work 365 days a year to eat dog food. Larry, be glad you were here for the good times. It was good to be a driver then. Now, the taxi companies in Tampa have it all coming their way. Enjoy your retirement.

My Health is the big reason I am working out

Too much fast food is the bain of cab driving. You find yourself eating most of your meals out of a bag that has been handed to you through a drive threw window. There are, however, consequences. Gout is a very painful form of arthritus. It may be caused by lifestyle, primarily eating an indulgent diet. I have read that there is also a hereditary component that may make 75% of its victims suseptable to it. That some people have an inherent abnormality that does not allow them to process uric acid. So  it may not be related to diet It hurts  man and you don't want it. This time the Doctor prescribed for me a new medicene you many have seen on TV, called ULORIC. It is supposed to disolve the crystals in your joints that the uric acid causes. High levels of uric acid is the cause of gout. There was a slight problem, however. The medicine is very expensive and I just cannot afford it. After the two week free sample is up, its back to pain for me. I have no idea why he did not colc

Reading material

I read a variety of non fiction topics. Information is important to me and I don't have time for made up stories when reality is more interesting. Keep in mind, taxi drivers often have time to read in between calls. The Tim Tebow book often provokes a response from passengers while JFK assassination is now almost 50 years ago, and of interest to people of my generation. However, Mark Fuhrman destroys the single bullet theory from the angle of a homocide detective. That is not what happened that day Dallas. The Cigar City Mafia book is popular with locals who are interested in Tampa's mob past.

1500 meter freestyle long course

In an attempt to save my life, I started a conditioning program five weeks ago. I am swimming three days a week, and lifting weights twice. When I started, I could barely finish one lap. I am following a conditioning program designed by Michael Phelps coach. I trains three energy systems - endurance/lactate threshold/speed. I can't believe how fit I am getting. I feel wonderful when the workouts are over and I look forward to them. This photo is me after finishing 1500 meters in a long course pool on endurance day. That is 30 laps. This has got to be having a positive effect on my cardio. Wow! posted from Bloggeroid
